It’s hot in the Smokies. So we decided to head to Clingmans Dome at 6,654 feet, the highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
This year, Family Summits is in Rocky Mountain National Park. We’re all staying at YMCA of Estes Park at 8,000 feet. Hikes will only take us higher. So we needed to get to the highest point possible and breathe.
We also walked down to Andrews Bald. The flaming azaleas were no longer flaming but the views were still outstanding. The rumor was that a bear had been seen on the Bald but by the time we got there, it was gone.
When we got back to the car at 2 pm, the car thermometer said 84 degree. Clingmans Dome had hit a high of 87 yesterday.
I can’t go to Clingmans Dome every day. When will this heat leaves us?
