Recently I got a new car – finally after 10 years. For a couple of weeks, the car was naked. Sure, it had the Friends of the Smokies license plate but it had no stickers.
It took me a while to request new stickers from the various outdoor organizations that I support. And a friend gave me a bumper sticker. I laid them out on the table to see how the wheels of my life go round and round. I volunteer in some way to each organization. From the top left:
MST – Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. They are the stewards and champions of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail across North Carolina. I’m an MST trail maintainer and a trail evangelist
Friends of the Smokies – The group fundraises for Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I lead monthly hikes in the North Carolina side of the Smokies.
Carolina Mountain Club – My home base. Right now, I’m on the Council representing Communications. I lead hikes for the club.
Great Smoky Mountains Association – They manage the bookstores in the Smokies and publish books and maps on the park. I’m on the Board of Directors.
Appalachian Trail – I’m a Appalachian Trail maintainer. I’m also the Excursion Chair for the ATC 2013 biennial.
So I seem to go from one organization to another. Round and Round.
Which ones do you support?
