Get in the holiday spirit with Friends of the Smokies last Classic Hike of the year! Join us Tuesday, December 17 for a half-day hike on Old Sugarlands Trail and explore the Tennessee side of the Smokies. Yes, the series may be called Classic hikes of North Carolina but we thought it might be fun to see a little of classic Tennessee.
This hike is easy in difficulty at 5 miles out-and-back with a total elevation gain of 800 feet. I’m leading this hike but you’ll be able to meet Holly Demuth, NC Director of Friends of the Smokies. We’ll visit several homesites and the remnants of a CCC camp. After seeing Sugarlands Cemetery, we will hike to nearby Cataract Falls, then warm up in Sugarlands Visitor Center and natural history museum, newly renovated thanks to your donations to Friends.
The Visitor Center is your chance to shop for the holidays or that birthday that you know is coming up in January. To register for this hike, contact Brent via email or 828-452-0720. Hope to see you there!
